Mach Smashes Track Record
BRILLIANT 4YO pacer Mach Dan established a track record of 1:53.6 taking out the Flying Brick Cider Rocket over the flying mile last Friday night.
Sent out a $1.30 favorite, Mach Dan sped out in a 27.9 first quarter before driver Greg Sugars gave him a ‘breather’, and with the brakes released, the Emma Stewart trained pacer reeled off a 55.4 last 800 metres to score from Sicario and Forty Thieves.
Mach Dan is raced by prominent Geelong based owner Danny Zavitsanos who was delighted with the win.
“It’s a big thrill to win The Rocket on my home track,” he said.
“We think he will make a nice horse in the open class ranks so it’s good to see him come back from a break with a win in such a fast time.”
The son of Mach Three has now win 10 of his 20 starts and has amassed almost $220,000 in prize money.
A large number of club members and the public took the opportunity to sample the new state of the art Winning Post Bar & Restaurant which was open for the first time.
As one racegoer remarked ‘sitting at the table behind the glass so close to the winning post you feel as if you’re part of the action out on the track’.
