Leanne Leeann
BONNY Inverleigh trained mare Leanne Leeann staked a further claim for the Geelong Trotter Of The Year Award when she saluted in the Haras Des Trotteurs Trot last Friday night.
The win was the mare’s third success at Beckley Park in the past six weeks.
Veteran reinsman Bob Kuchenmeister urged Leanne Leeann to the lead shortly after the start where she was kept company by her main danger Isaac H who was content to sit facing the breeze for the duration of the 2570 metre journey.
Leanne Leeann (2.30 fav) trotted strongly in the home straight staving off all challenges to score by six metres from Imperial Whiz with Night Whisperer a neck away third.
Kuchenmeister admitted he was reluctant to give the mare full rein in her races.
“If you let her go she will just go flat out for the whole race, that’s the only way she knows,” he said.
“She tries her hardest all the time so there is no need to get into her in the straight.”
Kuchenmeister believes there is further improvement in the mare.
“She hasn’t had a lot of racing as a young horse and in another 12 months she might be ready to take on the metropolitan trotting mares at Melton,” he said.
Leanne Leeann is raced by local horsewoman Brooke Sadler and her mother Jan.
